| About Me: |
For 46 years I have been a student of Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Public Health, and Human Behavior. Twenty years ago I combined my profession with my passion for motorsports and established the National Center for Prevention and Research Solutions (NCPRS), home of Race Against Drugs, Stay On Track, and Operation Fire Safe. Utilizing my skills as an Adult and Juvenile Probation and Parole Officer; Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland; Director of Public Safety for the Northern Virginia Planning District commission; and Director of Crime Prevention for the U.S. Department of Justice; and 30 years of racing cars and motorcycles, I organized a diverse group of government agencies and public/private organizations to teach drug prevention and education in a creative format. I began the program with the belief that I would have a better chance of teaching kids life-skills that would enable them to stay drug-free if it involved fun and excitement. We now employ 16 people, including creative and evaluation specialists who ensure that all NCPRS programs and curriculums are scientifically designed, research-driven, and thoroughly evaluated. Programs included: K-2 Activity Workbooks; 3-5 Race Against Drugs classroom series; Stay On Track 6-8 grade curriculum (150,000 kids in all 50 states and territories); poster series; Adopt-A-School kits; how-to manuals; drug prevention information brochures; workbooks; and videos. The foundation for the success of these initiatives is the result of public/private partnerships with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration; National Guard; U.S. Navy; Center for Substance Abuse Prevention; Bureau of Justice Assistance; Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Programs; Executive Office of Weed and Seed; 22 motorsports sanctioning organizations and many fortune 500 companies.
I have been given the privilege in the fall of my career to challenge NCPRS’s creative staff and our vast network of volunteers to design and evaluate new methods to utilize the color, speed, sound, and excitement of motorsports to teach public health and public safety in this Nation. |
